Below is a message from our pastor BEFORE she went to General Synod.....
This month I will be joining ministers and local church representatives from all over the country who will be gathering in Cleveland to participate in the UCC General Synod. Members of the synod will worship God together and discuss resolutions brought from local settings. These resolutions can be found at the following link - http://synod.uccpages.org/resolutions/.
Let us pray for the representatives and the discussions they undertake. The General Synod is our National Meeting that speaks to the churches, not for the churches. The Synod has about seven facets and one of those is the business of the church. This year I am one of the delegates representing the East Ohio Association. I will be involved in the work of General Synod from Friday afternoon through Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. This is an important responsibility for any and all who are asked to represent the church and together be a voice to the church. What happens at Synod should be lifted up and reviewed as important guidelines for our local manifestations.
On the home page of the UCC.org National website, there is a 15 minute video: General Synod 101 that does a great job of teaching about the many aspects of General Synod and directs you to other sites if you have further questions.
I am now actively preparing for this task of representing you and showing up to give voice to the items and concerns before us. Together we are God’s children striving for justice and peace while sharing compassionate witness. I specifically ask your prayers for guidance and wisdom.
With a grateful heart,
